Out at a school today with my shirt and tie, dark glasses and professional looking file under one arm, looking (apparently) powerful and important, I overheard a Year Two boy say to his mate as I walked past, "That's the Prime Minister."

After considerable planning, working hard, tweaking and consultation (with enormous thanks to Andrew, Matt and Alex at Gramercy Studios!), the site is live.
It doesn't yet have all the cards and videos uploaded to the Members Library, but the cards will be added shortly, and the videos over Christmas when other demands ease off. After many years of developing Shoebox as an intensely personal thing (how many other people, I wondered, would possibly be interested in grammar?) it then felt very strange to share my passion for the language with teachers at those early Professional Development workshops, but at least I could see them and answer their questions. Now, after a lot of refining, adding, modifying and reflection, Shoebox is venturing out into the wider world completely on its own. If you are reading this in the USA, or Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan or any other country that either teaches English or teaches IN English, I trust Shoebox will help you with both your own knowledge of how our beautiful, but baffling language is constructed and also how to teach it. Go well. |
